I designed this piece with two concepts in mind, simplicity, and elegance, by mimicking the ripples in water when you cast a stone into a tranquil lake. I selected quarter sawn white oak because the rays which exist in this type of wood bend and flow with the curves. This creates an exceptional effect that is not found with other woods.
The finishing processes I used are those employed by fine craftsmen of the mid-1800’s. Using a blend of linseed oil and beeswax, with the finish being finish rubbed into the wood so that it is absorbed rather than simply coating over top. This enhances the natural beauty of the wood while providing protection which is integrated into the work. This process does take more time and effort but it is worth it.
